Thailand is currently in the midst of its longest heatwave in 65 years with many provinces hitting temperatures exceeding 44 degrees celcius (111.2 farenheit).
The long-tailed macaques (Macaca fascicularis) around us have come up with a solution for the oppressive heat, they leave their tree top perches and hit the local river for a swim.
They seem perfectly at home in the water and act like naughty children, chasing, dunking and wrestling each other. Sometimes one will climb a branch over the water and look down over all its freinds in the water almost daring them to try and get him in. Soon the other monkeys turn their attentions to their friend and begin to shake the branch or try to climb up to knock him off his perch and into the water. This goes on with each victor claiming the perch for as long as they can before their friends push them in.
They’re were so much fun to watch
